FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :

Q: How many lessons will my child need in order to learn how to be safe in the water?

A: In all honestly, there is no set number. In fact there are actually stages of learning that better determine your child’s progress:
1.) Early Stage- Learning swim terms and actions, understanding what is being asked of him/her
2.) Intermediate Stage- Actively trying to manipulate his/her movements in accordance with the skill
3.) Advanced Stage- Properly performing the skills and even Correcting his/herself when mistakes are made

Every child is different and everything is an influential factor. It is our job to maximize his/her potential.  Booking lessons Monday-Thursday for a minimum of 8 lessons to begin with ensures that every student has been given the best tools needed to succeed.

Q: I have two kids, is there any sort of discount?
A:  There will be a 10% Discount on the package for each additional sibling.

(The $30 New Swimmer Registration Package will still need to be paid for each additional sibling as it includes his/her own goggles)

Q: Is it more effective to have lessons at my pool or your pool?
A: At-home lessons can be either extremely effective or extremely ineffective. In some cases, at-home lessons are ineffective because the child is too comfortable in their environment and his/her willingness to participate in new activities is far outweighed by the idea of “being in charge”. In other cases, at-home lessons prove to be extremely effective because the child already feels comfortable being in his/her own environment and is more likely to want to push his/her comfort zone on their own. It varies based upon the child and his/her response. So go ahead and book the location that works best for you and your family and should there be a noticeable concern pertaining to location, we can make appropriate adjustments.

Q: Aside from the pool being clean of course, are there any other requirements for lessons at my location?
A: Yes, The pool needs to be kept at an appropriate temperature of 88-90 degrees Fahrenheit for our lessons. Children's body temperatures are easily affected by their environments and we want to keep his/her focus on the swim lessons.  If it is an exceptionally warm Florida day 85-86 degrees will suffice :)

Q: Where should I be during our lesson?
A: As a professional, I can say that 9/10 children need to be separated from the parent in some regard in order to progress effectively. Parents are the ultimate security-blanket for their children, and while taking swim lessons,  I , as the instructor, will be constantly competing with that if you are around. You have already chosen to place trust in me to teach your child this life skill, but that does not mean your child has placed the same trust. It is important for your child to be able to learn how to trust in what I am saying to him/ her and what I am asking him/her to do. So in turn, I need to become the new “security-blanket” during swimming lessons in order for your child to excel as a swimmer. With that being said, I encourage you to stick around for our first lesson to help aid in your child's comfort, but after that it is normally best if you are out of his/her immediate line of sight :)

Q:  Will you force my child underwater?
A: Yes, but not in a manner that is harmful to their physical or emotional well-being. Ultimately my goal is to get him/her to go underwater willingly, but if they are not fond of it in the beginning it will be upsetting to them. It is imperative to the future progress of our lessons that they discover their predisposed boundaries and push past them. Although it will not be conducted in a forceful manner, it will be happening. Finding creative ways of getting swimmers to enjoy going underwater is always my goal. :)

Q: My child is crying a lot, is that normal?
A: No, It is not normal. My personal beliefs have been adjusted and I no longer promote forcing children to “cry through it”. If there is a legitimate fear that is proving to be a sincere concern for the child, We will find a way to work through it before moving forward. My job is to teach them that their ‘fear’ is unfounded and in fact the activity is quite enjoyable. So typically the first few lessons will consist of more drills to gain trust and comfort-ability than intensive skill development. [Keep in mind that lessons will be adjusted according to the needs of your child.]

Q: It’s Florida! So what happens when it rains?
A: 30 minutes prior to your scheduled lesson will be the deciding factor for a cancellation. Florida’s weather is unpredictable and changes at a moment’s notice. Therefore, it would be unfortunate to cancel too soon and have the sun come out moments later. There is no charge for any lessons cancelled due to inclement weather. I will be using the Friday, Saturday and Sunday within your session for make-up classes due to inclement weather. We will schedule those individually should one of your lessons get cancelled due to the rain.
*Morning Lessons are less likely to be cancelled due to inclement weather, so if you want a steady swim schedule please explore the morning options*

Q: What if I am running late to our lesson?
A: Lessons are 30 minutes in length and are designated to begin and end at the time noted on the scheduler. I do understand that circumstances arise that are out of your control and if I have an opportunity to add time for you, I will, but if I am on a tight schedule, then unfortunately late arrivals will not be guaranteed a full 30 minute lesson.

Q: Last minute cancellations?
A: All Last minute cancellations (that are not weather related) are subject to full payment. Some of these last minute cancellations include but are not limited to: pool temperature being too cold, water quality being unsafe to swim in, or forgetting the lesson time.

It is my responsibility to ensure that my clients, as well as myself, are safe and comfortable during our lessons. It is also my responsibility to provide all of my clients with equal opportunity to time slot availability and therefore I allow for an 8 hour cancellation period in order to fill any gaps that may arise within my day. The only exceptions that will be made to this policy are on a case-by-case scenario :)

Q: Am I allowed to photograph?
A: ABSOLUTELY! :D It is a special life skill that they will only learn once! So take all the photos and videos that you please! And better yet! Add a photo or video onto my website! I LOVE watching my swimmers make progress!!  :)

Q: Are you associated with ISR?
A: No, I am not a certified ISR instructor.
